Description
Lake Međeš was created in 1984 by building a dam on the small stream with the same name on the Fruška Gora south-eastern slopes. It is a medium-sized lake, 1100m long and 350m wide, with a maximum depth of 14m. As such, it is an attractive place for many waterbirds to overwinter, like Stokkönd, Urtönd, Rauðhöfðaönd, Gargönd, Skeiðönd, Skutulönd, and sometimes Kólfönd.
The lake is surrounded by scrubs, bushes, and even a small forest below the dam, so many birds of mosaic and agricultural habitats can be found here: Músvákur, Skottmeisa, Blámeisa, Svartþröstur, Skrækskaði, and Þistilfinka. Many Holudúfas from Fruška Gora forest come to the lake surroundings in winter and can usually be found on electrical power lines in the fields west of the lake.
