Frognerparken is perhaps best known for all the statues by Gustav Vigeland, but it's worth bringing your binoculars as well when you visit.
In summer, Frognerparken is a good spot for the resident, urban species, like Maríuerla , Bókfinka , Þistilfinka and Svartþröstur. In addition, the ponds will hold various ducks and maybe also Sefhæna, Lindastelkur and Straumerla. Hnúðsvanur breeds here.
In winter, the ponds usually have open water, which is good for wintering ducks. Stokkönd are of course abundant, while Hvinönd and Skúfönd are usual guests. Urtönd and Rauðhöfðaönd also regularly winter here. Always check for rarer species, especially in late fall and early spring. Gráhegri is also a common sight. Gulls also frequent the park during the winter months, due to people feeding the ducks. Wintering Hettumáfur and Stormmáfur can be found, as well as rarer species. Both Hvítmáfur and Bjartmáfur have been reported from the park, and one Hringmáfur was found here in the spring of 2001.
Follow Frognerelva south west to Skøyen and look for Fossbúi during winter.
Frognerparken is easily accessible by bus, tram and subway. Majorstuen is the closest hub, a mere five minute walk away. If you exit to the south west towards Skøyen, you will find both train, tram and bus to take you back to Oslo. Driving is not recommended, as parking may be difficult and expensive.
