Zandgat Nijstad is a former sand extraction area that has been transformed into a recreational area in recent years. You can find various birds around the two lakes. Water birds on the lakes and songbirds such as Þistilfinka and Hörfinka on the dike-like hill, in the reed beds and along the path that runs between the two lakes.

Access
Zandgat Nijstad is located directly west of the city of Hoogeveen. There is a spacious parking lot. Click on the P in the map for directions. From the parking lot you have to walk a bit to the large iron gate further on the Koedijk, you can easily go around it on the left.
