This area, best visited in the afternoon for light conditions, often holds interesting (wintering) seabirds between the poles of the mussel beds.

Description

The mussel beds in this part of the Wadden Sea are a good feeding ground for birds like Æðarfugl , Stargoði and, in winter, Lómur and/or Langvía . When you're lucky, you may find a Flórgoði or a Sefgoði between the numerous Stargoði , that gather here after the breeding season.

Nederlands: Dit gebied, dat 's middags het best bezocht kan worden vanwege de lichtomstandigheden, herbergt vaak interessante (overwinterende) zeevogels. De mosselbanken in dit deel van de Waddenzee zijn een goede voedselplek voor vogels als Æðarfugl, Stargoði en in de winter Lómur en / of Langvía. Als je geluk hebt, vind je misschien een Flórgoði of een Sefgoði tussen de talrijke Stargoði, die hier na het broedseizoen samenkomen.

Access

There is a parking lot along the IJsdijk and a maintenance road as well as a staircase going over the dike. Most of the birds can easily be seen from the dike. In winter, it may be interesting to search the outer rocks for Strandtittlingur and Snjótittlingur.

The Wadden Sea can be quite choppy, but the grebes can still be there. It may be worthwhile to take an extra good look.
