Description
The 'Kapteinshut' is a beautifully designed birdwatching hide. It is built around an old tree. The roof of the bird hide is covered with thatch cut on the banks of the lake you look out on. The reed land behind the lake has been transformed into an area in which reed land, shallow open water and slightly higher meadows alternate. This makes the area attractive as a breeding ground for marsh birds such as Sefþvari, Flóðsöngvari, Blábrystingur, Síkjasöngvari, Kampameisa and Kólfönd. Among the other birds you can see here are Jarpönd, Skúfönd, Skutulönd, Hnúðsvanur, Rauðhöfðaönd en Gulönd.

Nederlands: De Kapteinshut is een mooi ontworpen vogelkijkhut. Hij is om een oude boom heen gebouwd. Het dak van de vogelkijkhut is bedekt met riet dat gesneden is aan de oevers van de plassen waar je op uitkijkt. Het rietland achter de plas is omgevormd tot een gebied waarin rietland, ondiep open water en iets hoger gelegen hooilandjes elkaar afwisselen. Hierdoor is het gebied aantrekkelijk als broedgebied voor moerasvogels als Sefþvari, Flóðsöngvari, Blábrystingur, Síkjasöngvari, Kampameisa en Kólfönd. Andere vogels die je hier aan kunt treffen zijn Jarpönd, Skúfönd, Skutulönd, Hnúðsvanur, Rauðhöfðaönd en Gulönd.

Access
From Almere / Lelystad follow N302 towards Harderwijk, at the roundabout at Hardersluis N306 towards Walibi / Biddinghuizen. From the direction of Harderwijk, turn right at the roundabout towards Walibi / Biddinghuizen. After about 3 km. turn left onto the Karekietweg. After a few hundred meters you will have the Kievitslandenpad on your right. There is a parking space here on both sides of the Karekietweg. From the parking lot it is a 15 minute walk to the bird hide. From the parking lot, follow the route over the bridge into the seasonal flooded forest. Walk the path straight ahead, at a junction where the white route turns right, the bird hide is half a minute's walk to the left.

Nederlands: Vanuit Almere/Lelystad N302 richting Harderwijk volgen, op de rotonde bij Hardersluis N306 richting Walibi/Biddinghuizen. Vanuit de richting Harderwijk op de rotonde rechtsaf richting Walibi/Biddinghuizen. Na ca. 3 km. linksaf de Karekietweg op. Na een paar honderd meter heb je dan aan je rechterhand het Kievitslandenpad. Hier is aan beide zijden van de Karekietweg een parkeerplaats. Vanaf de parkeerplek is het 15 minuten lopen naar de vogelkijkhut. Volg vanaf de parkeerplaats de route over het bruggetje het broekbos in. Loop het pad steeds rechtdoor, bij een splitsing waar de witte route rechtsaf gaat ligt de vogelkijkhut op een halve minuut lopen naar links.
