Mount Phulchowki is located in the valley of Kathmandu and has a monastery on the top. At the foot is the botanical garden.
On the way to the monastery at the approximately 2,700 metre high mountain top of Mount Phulchowki, one passes through various zones of the mountain forest, all of which invite to observation. Observations in this area are made from the access road to the monastery and in the botanical garden, which charges an entrance fee. It is relatively easy to observe birds of the mountain forest here. Among the birds you can encounter are Asian Barred Owlet, Great Barbet, Maroon Oriole, Grey-headed Woodpecker, Small Niltava, Red-billed Blue-Magpie, Blyth's Shrike-Babbler and Fire-tailed Sunbird.
By car, drive to Godavari at the foot of Phulchowki about 15 km from Kathmandu in a south-easterly direction.
