Description
Neustadtgödens was created by the extraction of sand for the construction of the motorway between 1977 and 1982. In 1985 it was designated as a nature reserve. Since then, there have been some ornithologically interesting habitats due to the succession and the settlement of fish: the 3 lakes themselves, reed areas, shallow water areas and bush areas on the dams. The lakes are good for resting water birds like Gulönd, Hvítönd, Toppgoði, Skeiðönd, Rauðhöfðaönd, Skutulönd, Mjallhegri or Stormmáfur. For many birds this is an attractive place because it is a fresh water near the coast. Birds like Vepja, Vatnalóa, Trjástelkur or Lindastelkur can also be observed on the shallow water areas. There is also a colony of Dílaskarfur. The water mill is also a cultural highlight.

Access
The area canbe viewed from the observation platform that has been recently reconstructed. There is no parking space at the observation platform as the street is very narrow. You can park your car at the entrance to the water mill.
