Description
The Queichwiesen covers an area of almost 400 hectares. The Queichbrücke near Ottersheim is an ideal place for observation with a spotting scope or binoculars. Several hundred Hvítstorkur, swarms of Stari and Landsvala as well as various types of waders can often be observed when the meadows are irrigated in April and May and in July and August. Rare guests such as Kolstorkur or Háleggur also appear on such days. The days when the meadows are irrigated can be requested at Queichwiesen.de (see the clickable link below). Wear waterproof shoes on these watering days! Among the other birds you can expect in the area are Þúfutittlingur, Gráhegri, Hagaskvetta, Vepja, Þyrnisvarri and Vatnagleða.
