One of Hamburgs biggest lakes, supporting lots of interesting birds during all seasons, including Sefþvari and the beautiful Bláþyrill.
The Öjendorfer lake is host to interesting birds that can be hard to find elsewhere in Hamburg, during almost the entire year. It offers easy birding in the middle of Germany's second biggest city and is always good for a surprise. The birdlist at the bottom of this page shows you the birds you can see here.
Access isn't great and a personal vehicle (car, bike, etc. is useful). If you arrive by car you can park near the junction Reinskamp/Driftredder in the south or at Barsbütteler Weg in the east or in the north near Bruhnrögenredder (see the map). If you come by subway you take the U2 till U Steinfurther Allee, then have to walk 2 km towards the north (best use some map). Or you drive to U Billstedt, where you can take one of the buses to "Fuchsbergweg", then you only have to walk a few hundred meters. However these buses are somewhat irregular. The best (and only) ways to explore the lake is by foot or by bike.
