Description
The Kietzer See is one of the lakes of the Altfriedländer Teiche around the village of Altfriedland. The lake has great numbers of wintering waterfowl including: Blesgæs, Akurgæs, Skutulönd, Skúfönd and a big part of the huge numbers of Grátrana (up to 10.000) that stop here in the autumn or stay here all year round.
During spring and autumn migration you will encounter great numbers of Hettumáfur and Dvergmáfur with some Lónamáfur in between every now and then. The three tern species I have seen here so far are Sílaþerna, Kolþerna and Ránþerna.
Especially during autumn migration a lot of waders can be observed here, mostly Lóuþræll, Trjástelkur, Rúkragi and Hrossagaukur. But I have also seen Dvergsnípa, Stelkur, Veimiltíta and Spóatíta here.
Birds of Prey include Haförn, Brúnheiðir, Gjóður and Gunnfálki. And from the surrounding forests and grasslands you can hear the calls of Svartspæta, Fauskspæta, Laufglói and Herfugl.

Access
Getting to the Kietzer See can be a bit tricky. There is a normal path from the village of Altfriedland, where you can access two viewing platforms, but the view is obstructed by trees. To get a good view of the lake you have to drive to Quappendorf and take a path over the fields through the forest.
