Description
Kiesseen Prettin is a body of water of 112 hectare located on the Elbe River near Prettin. Characteristic are the shoals and the sandbanks, some of which lie in the middle of the water. Almost 50 breeding bird species are known on the site. The waterfowl include Hnúðsvanur and Bleshæna. The vertical bank walls are inhabited by Bakkasvala, and Tjaldur breeds on the gravelly flat banks. Sefsöngvari, Seljusöngvari and Seftittlingur live in the reed beds, while Næturgali and Pungmeisa live in the damp wood along the banks. The dry bushes are inhabited by Þyrnisvarri, Þyrnisöngvari and Netlusöngvari, while Turnfálki, Laufglói and Trjáspör breed in the trees. Akurhæna, Vallskvetta, Topplævirki and Steindepill live on the ruderal and barren areas. The gravel lakes are also important for resting migrating waterfowl, especially Akurgæs (serrirostris), Blesgæs, Skutulönd, Skúfönd and Gulönd.
