Description
The best season for a visit is late spring (or early summer), when all the typical breeding species have arrived. A circular path that runs around the large pond in the centre of the area is the best way to explore the site. Note that some trails can be closed. Observing the breeding or moulting ducks such as Kólfönd, Gargönd and Skutulönd should be no problem. For getting a glimpse on Reyrsöngvari, Flóðsöngvari, Blábrystingur and Rindilþvari you will need some more patience, but you will definitely be able to listen to the songs of the three passerine species. Pay some attention to the surrounding fields, as sometimes Gráheiðir turn up.
On migration season Kolþerna and Gjóður are regularly seen, here and then also Skeggþerna. Unfortunately, the ponds are drained some time after the peak of wader migration, so you can expect only some of the more common species in autumn .

Access
There is no real car park, but it is possible to leave the car at the northeastern corner of the large pond. Leave Gerolzhofen westwards in the direction of Volkach and turn after 300 meters right towards Brünnstadt. Pay attention to an inconspicious signpost "Auenhof" on your right hand side. Follow it and continue on this lane until you arrive at the ponds. Just after you've crossed a ditch, turn once again right. Shortly you should reach the mentioned northeastern corner of the pond.
The best way to arrive by public transport is taking the bus from Schweinfurt to Gerolzhofen (line 8160).
