Description
Stretching along the western slopes of the Odenwald mountain, the area between the villages of Dossenheim and Schriesheim not only offers great views over the Rhine valley, but is also a protected Natura 2000 site with a rich avivauna. On the lower reaches of the hills, a mosaic of vineyards, orchards, and meadows provides a habitat for many bird species, including Þyrnisvarri, Gráspæta, Gauktíta, Álmtittlingur, and the rare Steintittlingur. In the forested upper reaches, Fauskspæta, Svartspæta, and Grænsöngvari can be found. Moreover, Úfur breed in the abandoned quarries nearby.

Access
The Dossenheim - Schriesheim vineyards can be reached by public transport (tram no. 5: stops Dossenheim Nord, Schriesheim Süd, or Schriesheim Bahnhof) or car (parking near the Schauenburg castle in Dossenheim). There are several footpaths leading through the area at different elevations. The route on the map is a circular route (ca. 5 km) that leads mostly through the vineyards and orchards and partly through the fringes of the forest.
