Rich floodplain landscape with semi-open, grazed steep slopes. Great view over the valley of the river Innerste and the hills of Marienburger Hügelland.
The special value of the Am Roten Steine nature reserve lies in its habitat diversity. The closely interlinked wet habitats and heat-favored openland biotopes are home to birds such as Þyrnisvarri, Gultittlingur, Gaukur, Turnfálki, Sparrhaukur and Bláþyrill.
The Am Roten Steine nature reserve is reachable on foot from Hohnsensee - a very nice 7 km circular route to Marienburg and on the other side of the river Innerste back towards Hildesheim. By car you can park near Marienburg and from there you can reach the nature reserve on foot within 10 minutes. Click on a P in the map for directions to a car park.
