One of the most important bird migration areas in Hesse. Large numbers of raptors can be observed as well as big groups of migrating songbirds.
The Altes Feld (Old Field) near Dainrode was the largest Hessian resting place for Vepja in the 1970s with daily maximums (resting population) of around 14,000. Up to 600 Heiðlóa. Rare Fjalllóa. Altes Feld located near the village of Dainrode. The area is crossed by the B 253 and is very easy to reach. Driving on dirt roads is forbidden, but is probably never checked.
