Description
The Altes Feld (Old Field) near Dainrode was the largest Hessian resting place for Vepja in the 1970s with daily maximums (resting population) of around 14,000. Up to 600 Heiðlóa. Rare Fjalllóa. Large numbers of raptors, sometimes over 50 Svölugleða and 100 Músvákur. The Fjallvákur is an occasional migrant and winter guest. In the cold winter of 86/87 up to 20 individuals. Bláheiðir, Brúnheiðir, Smyrill and Snjótittlingur regularly. Sometimes Grátrana rest, often thousands of them migrating. Maximum numbers: Sönglævirki 10,000, Gráþröstur 10,000, Skógarþröstur 6,000, Stari 200,000, Þúfutittlingur 2,000.

Access
Altes Feld located near the village of Dainrode. The area is crossed by the B 253 and is very easy to reach. Driving on dirt roads is forbidden, but is probably never checked.
