Description
Alte Elbe is an old arm of the river Elbe near the town of Gerwisch. Good chances to see Haförn, Gjóður and Grátrana. Many waterbirds, especially during migration time (e.g., Mjallhegri, Gráhegri, Grágæs, Akurgæs, Skeiðönd, Urtönd, Taumönd, Álft, Hvítönd, Gulönd, Toppgoði, Dverggoði, Vepja, Lyngstelkur, Sótstelkur, Rúkragi). In the adjacent areas Svölugleða, Vatnagleða, Turnfálki, Svartspæta, Gauktíta, and very occasionally Býsvelgur or Herfugl can be seen.

Access
The Alte Elbe is located near the towns of Gerwisch and Biederitz. From the towns you can access the area via field paths on foot or bicycle. Click on a P in the map for directions to a parking place.
