Description
The Seudre estuary is home to a large portion of the population of the nanmetum subspecies of the Blábrystingur, which is endemic to the French Atlantic coast. With a bit of luck it can be observed here (other good spots are the Pointe de la Coubre, Marais de Brouage and RNMO). Some breeding birds of the Moulin des Loges reserve are Gulerla, Blæsöngvari, Landsvala, Háleggur and more.
Nearby Flatnefur and different heron species, such as Nátthegri are breeding, as well as Sílaþerna and Völsungur. Besides from that you can observe Taumönd and several limicole species during migration, such as Rúkragi, Jaðrakan (keep your eyes open for the islandica subspecies), Veimiltíta etc. (see the list below). The open landscape also allows good observations of migrating passerines, like Vallskvetta, Flekkugrípur, Garðaskotta or Steindepill, as well as Gauktíta. On the nearby fields you can observe Sandhæna, Heiðlóa (only during winter), Vepja and Korntittlingur. Note that in end of August the hunt for waders and ducks begins, which makes good observations harder.
In the summer 2025 a Rákatíta and a Vatnastelkur were stationary on the side of the road for a while. I was also able to observe a Bjarthegri x Kóralhegri hybrid several times in the area.
