The Cassan and Prentegarde marshes constitute one of the largest wetland complexes in West Cantal.
The diversity of environments and species makes Marais du Cassan et de Prentegarde a unique site with its wetlands embedded in meadow and forest areas. The wet meadows, marshes and peat moors are home the remarkable fauna like Otter and many bird species. Among the birds you can encounter are Náttfari, Hrossagaukur, Grásvarri, Þyrnisvarri, Vepja, Laufglói, Gaukur, Kattugla, Svölugleða and Herfugl.

Français: Le marais du Cassan et de Prentegarde constitue l’un des plus vastes complexes humides de l’Ouest Cantal. La diversité des milieux et des espèces en fait un site unique dans le département avec ses milieux humides imbriqués dans des espaces prairiaux et forestiers. Il est composé d’un ensemble de prairies humides, de marais et de landes tourbeuses qui accueille entre autres des droseras (plantes carnivores). Parmi la faune remarquable que le site abrite, on trouve divers amphibiens et reptiles, une grande diversité de libellules comme l’Agrion de mercure ou la cordulie à corps fin, la loutre européenne.
Marais du Cassan et de Prentegarde is located at an altitude of 550 m between Lacapelle-Viescamp, Saint-Étienne-Cantalès and Saint-Paul-des-Landes. Road access: From the D61, roadside parking. Click on the P in the map for directions. Pedestrian access: Departure from the sign along the D61. Distance and duration: 1.5 km, 0h45, round trip. But you can also make a longer circular walk through the surrounding area. This 14 km walk is indicated on the map.
