Largest artificial lake in Nord-Pas-de-Calais that attracts many birds.
The Val Joly Miroir is a water reservoir emanating from a dam built at the end of the 1960s to regulate the floods of the Sambre and cool the old thermal power station. It is the largest artificial lake in Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Nord de Paris. This large expanse of water attracts a great diversity of birds. Among the birds you can see here are Hvítstorkur, Mjallhegri, Lindastelkur, Keldusvín, Gjóður and sometimes Kolstorkur. A special birdwatching trail (5 km, see the map below) is created in the area.
