Lac de Mison is a small lake in the middle of a relatively dry area. The reedbeds attract very interesting birds that are not found easy in the region.
Lac de Mison is a small lake surrounded by woodland, bushlands and hay fields. The lake is popular with local anglers. But it is even better for birders. Because the lake is bordered by a wide reed collar, it attracts some special bird species that are not always easily found in the region.
Most prominent is the Rindilþvari. It breeds in de reedbeds and shows itself relatively easy. Just as easy you can see Reyrsöngvari. More difficult is, as always, the Sefþvari, that also lives around the lake. These are the 3 star species of Lake Mison, but you can see many more birds on and around the lake. See the extendend list below.
Note: from February 1 to June 30, a small section of the lake is closed to prevent disturbance of breeding birds. You cannot make a circular walk then. Fortunately, the best places to see Rindilþvari and Reyrsöngvari are still accessible. They are marked on the map.
The lake is easily accessible. There are two parking spaces and a 2-kilometer footpath runs around the lake. Part of the walking path is accessible by wheelchair.
