This Natura 2000 area is mainly made up of meadows around a backwater of the river Saône.
Chaumette Island is an arm of the river Saône which was deliberately disconnected from the river in the 19th century. Today it constitutes an interesting wetland for birds, especially herons like Nátthegri, Kúhegri and Mjallhegri. In winter much more rarely you can observe Sefþvari. The surrounding environments are made up of meadows and crops where you can observe Trjáspör and Fjöruspói. Several wetlands are also present and can attract migrants such as Hrossagaukur or more rarely Relluhegri.
