Description
During migration and winter the water bodies can host lots of ducks if they have not been flushed by fishermen or hunters, among which several dozens of Skutulönd and Skúfönd and several hundreds of Bleshæna . A rarity such as the Korpönd or Duggönd is always possible in winter. Still in winter but above all during October-November and March the wet grassland is a very good spot for Hrossagaukur and Dvergsnípa.
In summer typical breeders include Sílaþerna and Toppgoði on the lake, Þyrnisvarri in the bushes or Þúfutittlingur in the grassland.
In late summer and early autumn when water level drops the south-western water body can be very good for waders particularly Flóastelkur or for a Kolstorkur stopover. In spring when water level is higher, Kolþerna , Skeggþerna or Dvergmáfur are regularly seen foraging over water.
