Ruusuniemi is a nice place for observing waterfowl as they swim around the area or fly by. Stokkönd , Hvinönd , Skúfönd , Hnúðsvanur , Kanadagæs , Álft , Gulönd and Toppönd are a common sight from this spot. Birders have also sighted Hvítönd among other duck species and Mjallhegri flying by. There's also a bird feeding spot in a walking distance during winter times.
