Kongens Kær and Knabberup Sø is a contiguous lake and wetland area of a total of 100 ha. It is located very close to the city of Vejle.
Kongens Kær is a wetland in the river valley of Vejle Å, which in connection with the Knabberup Sø lake offers some nice birdwatching. The lake and marshland complex measures some 100 hectares. The area was previously used for grazing with water being removed with the help of drainage channels and pumps. Two major reclamation projects have transformed the area into mudflats, meadowland and lakes. More than 200 bird species have been recorded.
The wetland Kongens Kær is is located on the western outskirts of Vejle. You can access Kongens Kær via the car park on the road of Ribe Landevej. Click on a P in the map for directions. The area has observation decks to observe the birdlife. You can also make a circular walk of about 9 km. Much of the year the path is wet or damp in several places and robust footwear is recommended.
