Averboden has a huge biodiversity not only in the winter and summer but also during the migration season.
Most of the time people visit this nature reserve during the summer. But also during the winter and migration period you can see intersting bird species. The area is famous for the Náttfari which you can see during the summer but in the winter you can see the Grásvarri. Other birds you can encounter in the area are Hvinönd, Gjóður, Gunnfálki, Smyrill, Kolstorkur, Hnotigða, Hrafn, Grátrana, Svartspæta and Náttugla. Rare visitors are Haförn, Sandtittlingur, Rauðhegri and Háleggur.
