Wooded hillsides around the Dwyryd River. Largest reserve is 300 hectares. Tourist light railway available. Llenyrch gorge, waterfall and nuclear plant nearby.
Vale of Ffestiniog has mainly oak, ash, elm and alder woodland. The area has many rare species of lichen, liverwort and mosses, wildflowers include bluebells, golden saxifrage, wild garlic. Otters, badgers, lesser horseshoe bat, adders, common lizard and foxes are active. Birds include Kormos légykapó, Kerti rozsdafarkú, sisegő füzike, Holló and Vízirigó. Halászsas may occasionally be seen fishing Lake Trawsfynnydd in spring, summer and early autumn.
For Coed Felinrhyd car park is south side of A496, 2 miles west of Maentwrog. For Coed Cae Fali, car parks on north side of A487 Porthmadog to Maentwrog road. For Trawsfynnydd and path to waterfall, take A470 road SW from Maentwrog.
Decommissioning began at Trawsfynnydd nuclear power station in 1991 and will continue until 2083.
