On both the east side and west side of the island you will need to buzz at the gates to gain access, the island security should let you through. An easy walk around the perimeter of the island gives lovely views around Chichester harbour. The walk around is roughly 7 miles and is easy. As mentioned this is a military base and you must not enter onto military land from the footpath.
