Approx one sq mile of flooded and landscaped gravel pits eastward to Appleford. Good for waders, winter wildfowl, nesting passerines.

Description

Sutton Courtenay Gravel Pits has numerous footpaths which may be diverted in case of active gravel extraction. Nagy kócsag, Kis kócsag and Pásztorgém are present. Mezei veréb, partifecske and warblers breed. In winter, there may be, Sztyeppi sirály, Sarki sirály, Jeges sirály, Guvat, Örvös réce and waders.

Access

From Oxford take A34 south, go left at Tesco Abingdon interchange, first right to Drayton, right again to Sutton Courtenay. 2 car parks in village. Or seek permission to park at Appleford village hall. Train station in Appleford, bus stops in both villages.
