Small island off NE Anglesey with small Lunda colony and Wales' only breeding Pehelyréce. Access offshore by boat cruises or kayak, landing not permitted.
You can cruise around Puffin Island by joining a boat cruise from Beaumaris. See the website below and follow the link. Landing is not allowed due to danger of rat stowaways coming ashore, these once wiped out the Lunda which are now returning. The only breeding Pehelyréce in Wales. Also csüllő, északi sirályhojsza, shearwaters, skuas, sea ducks and auks may be seen offshore. Mammals: grey seals, dolphins and porpoises.
By boat from the village of Beaumaris. Price 80-minute Puffin Island Cruise: £ 18 (2022). The main season is the breeding season between April and July. Cruises run daily between April and October. Note: As with all seabirds outside of the breeding season they are only found out at sea, so you will not see Lunda on these cruises outside of the breeding season. See the links below for more info.
