Ranworth Broad is an excellent, quick and easy site to search for a variety of common wildfowl, plus some of the more iconic species of the Norfolk Broads.
NWT Ranworth Broad is accessible to all and boasts a great visitor centre (which is open in the spring and summer) with wide views over Ranworth Broad. The broad (lake) itself offers chances to see Búbos vöcsök, Jégmadár and Barna rétihéja throughout the year, while the boardwalk trail supports Barátcinege, Süvöltő and Guvat may also be heard.
In winter, the broad will be busy with feeding wildfowl including Fütyülő réce, Csörgo réce, Kanalas réce, Nyílfarkú réce and a few Kontyos réce. In periods of harsh weather, Bölömbika, Hegyi réce and other scarcer species may be seen. The alder trees on the trail from the car park may hold good numbers of Csíz and Barna zsezse.
In summer, there is a chance of seeing a flyover Halászsas, but more likely, there will be plenty of Küszvágó csér feeding over the broad. Large gatherings of Füsti fecske, Molnárfecske and partifecske may also be seen. Listen out for the songs of Csilpcsalpfüzike, Foltos nádiposzáta, cserregő nádiposzáta and even a Kakukk along the boardwalk trail.
There is a small car park available on the corner of Farm Lane and The Hill, but a larger one at The Maltsters Pub available if you drop in there for a quick drink or a bite to eat. The broad itself is accessed via the boardwalk trail. Wildlife boat trips are on offer here, so visit the Norfolk Wildlife Trust website (see link below) for more details.
