Wide estuary on Cardigan Bay with reedbeds, saltmarsh, tidal mudflats, sand beach and sea cliffs nearby.
There is layby parking on the Newport iron bridge which is a good viewpoint. Szula, shearwaters and Lunda may be seen from the beach, or the cliffs further north, which may also have vörös vércse, Havasi varjú and cigánycsuk. Foltos nádiposzáta, cserregő nádiposzáta, Nádi sármány, breed in the reeds where Kis kócsag, Guvat and Jégmadár may also feed.
The estuary and adjoining town of Newport, Pembs (not the same as the city of Newport, Gwent in east Wales) are midway between Fishguard and Cardigan, 10 miles from each, on the A487 coast road. Buses every 2 hours. Nearest trains at Fishguard. The south shore walk is 3 km there and back, the north shore and clifftop walk is 4 km.
