Large freshwater loch in the mountainous western highlands, with 30 forested islands where Északi búvár and Sarki búvár breed on the shoreline.
On the islands of Loch Maree Islands National Nature Reserve Északi búvár and Sarki búvár nest. Halászsas, Rétisas, Szirti sas, Vándorsólyom, Kékes rétihéja, Egerészölyv and Holló may be seen overhead. Keresztcsoru, woodpeckers, Erdei szalonka, sisegő füzike, Kormos légykapó and Csuszka in the woods. Perhaps Csonttollú in winter. Pine marten are fairly common in the area and may visit the feeders in the car parks. Red deer, roe deer and red squirrels, possibly wild cat.
There are several parking spots along the main road. The site is 60 miles west of Inverness and 105 miles north of Fort William. Boat trips available from the Maree Hotel.
