Description
Horsey Island was once grazing land protected by an earth bank sea wall. In 2017 this sea wall was breached allowing sea water in. Since then, this breach has grown considerably and Horsey Island is now covered by each incoming tide. As a result grassland has been replaced by a dynamic landscape of mudflats, sandbanks and saltmarsh. The area has large numbers of waders and wild fowl. Excellent at any time but especially during spring and autumn migrations. Among the birds you can encounter are Ezüstlile, Aranylile, Bíbic, Piroslábú cankó, Kanalasgém, Nagy goda, Havasi partfutó and Parti lile.

Access
Toll Road with large carpark £2. Walk along public footpath (part of south west coastal footpath). Carpark at Velator Quay. Parking at far end of the reserve at Crow Point. No public access to the reserve at present, but excellent views of its interior and birdlife from South West Coast Path which runs along its boundary. No dogs permitted.
