Description

Resident and passage waders, especially at Haven and at Longhoughton Steel, 1.5 km north. Large Aranylile flocks in winter, with records of amerikai pettyeslile and ázsiai pettyeslile. Passage Kis póling and Sarlós partfutó. Winter Tengeri partfutó. The tidal foreshore is unusual in that there are sheltered areas of shallow water protected from waves by reefs at almost all states of the tide, making it an important feeding location for the Kis csérs that breed at the nearby Long Nanny (q.v.) and other terns.

Északi búvár and Jeges búvár, and occasionally Sarki búvár, can be seen offshore in winter, and Fehércsőrű búvár has been recorded.

Vagrant passerines on foreshore and at Seaton Point, 1.5 km south in 2020-22 included Kékbegy, Kerti geze and Sivatagi hantmadár. Hósármány regular in winter. Tövisszúró gébics and Nagy őrgébics have both occurred on passage.
