From August to October, numerous thermal gliding birds can be observed passing through the skies around Gurten. The best time is late August and early September. Then large numbers of Darázsölyv are possible. With a bit of luck, Fekete gólya will also pass by. Other regular species are: Egerészölyv, Karvaly, Héja, vörös vércse, Kabasólyom, Vörös kánya, Barna kánya, Halászsas, Hamvas rétihéja, Barna rétihéja and Fehér gólya. In later autumn large flocks of Örvös galamb pass by. From time to time Havasi sarlósfecske can be observed on food flights.

Access
The Gurten hill is located directly south of Bern city center. The best way is to take the Gurtenbahn funicular that runs from the city to the Gurten. From there it is only a 10 minutes walk to the viewing and observation point.
