Description

The ponds of Chavornay attracts many passage and breeding birds. Interesting breeding birds include Vörös gém and Barna rétihéja and has also counted Cigányréce, törpevízicsibe and Kis vízicsibe.

Depending on the water level (generaly high in spring and low in autumn), many heron, duck and sometimes waders (when water level is low) can rest.

Walking and cycling are both good options. Cars are forbidden directly in the area, but parking is not too far (See the P on the map). The station of Chavornay is not very far from the ponds and walk or even better cycling allow easy access from there. You can make a circular walk around the area (2,5 km). The area has a bird hide and a lookout tower.
