Large island in Lake Vättern. It consists mostly of fields in the north and forests in the south. 280 bird species have been recorded on the island.
The position of Visingsö makes it an excellent spot for watching the migration passing through Lake Vättern. From the island migrating waders, gulls and terns can be seen. The fields on Visingsö are large and often hold large groups of Seregély, Mezei pacsirta, pipits, and crows. Large birds like geese and Daru also often feed on fields.
The wetland of Erstadkärret is often filled to the brim with waders (most arctic waders are common during migration), dabbling ducks, gruiformes, and geese. At Norra Udden, and Sandudden waders, grebes, loons and diving ducks. In the forests large amounts of passerine birds can be found.
To get to Visingsö you have to take a boat. A ferry takes people & cars multiple times a day from the port at Gränna. There are ample roads and parking spaces at Gränna and on Visingsö.
Part of the island is closed of during breeding season for bird protection (at Erstadkärret).
