Description
Stornäsets Nature Reserve offers great opportunities to see birds. Both in spring and autumn, lots of birds are can be seen here. The 149 hectare big reserve has a large contiguous deciduous forest area that is surrounded by meadows and pastures. The county's largest claimed seafront meadow and its connecting species-rich shallow seabeds attract thousands of birds, especially during migration. Several hides are built to allow you to watch birds without disturbing them.
Stornäset is a very important resting place for migratory birds. The shallow beaches, sand reefs and open meadows provide rest and food to the long-distance migratory birds. Here, waders and ducks thrive, but many passerines and birds of prey also pass by Stornäset. Most birds stop only for a short time, before moving on on their way to or from northern Sweden, Finland or Russia.
Among the water birds that like to stay here are, for example Nyílfarkú réce, Kanalas réce, Búbos vöcsök, and Énekes hattyú. Examples from the many waders are Csigaforgató, Ezüstlile, Aranylile, Pajzsoscankó, kőforgató, Piroslábú cankó, Havasi partfutó, Temminck-partfutó and Füstös cankó.
Hósármány, Karmazsinpirók, Kékbegy and sárga billegető are examples of passerines that you can see and birds of prey such as Gatyás ölyv and Kékes rétihéja. Rare guests include Sarlós partfutó, vékonycsőrű víztaposó, laposcsőrű víztaposó and Nagy sárszalonka.
