Description
Just outside the village of Vegas Altas extensive rice fields start. The fields receive important winter concentrations of Daru and several species of waders like Nagy goda, Parti lile, Gólyatöcs, Aranylile, Apró partfutó, Szürke cankó, Pajzsoscankó, Havasi partfutó, billegetőcankó, Erdei cankó, Sárszalonka and Réti cankó. During the migratory passages, you can also see other wintering birds such as Kékbegy, Havasi pityer or Nádi sármány. Other birds you can spot in the area are sivatagi őrgébics, tigrispinty, asztrild and Búbos banka. Also many wintering birds of prey (sometimes in high densities) like Barna rétihéja, Kékes rétihéja, Vörös kánya, kuhi, Kis sólyom and Réti fülesbagoly. Best times for a visit are winter and spring, from November to May. From June to October it can be very quiet on the fields.
