One of the outstanding birding spots in the Urdaibai estuary. There is an observatory looking directly at the marsh.
San Kristobal is part of the Urdaibai estuary, the most important wetland in the Basque Country. San Kristobal is a great resting spot for birds during migration, generally waders. Many passerines can also be seen. Not the best spot for wintering birds. A small beach is also present. To the right of the observatory deciduous trees are present, also pines.
There is a parking spot 10 minutes away of the birding site. A train also stops there. The trainstation and parking are markes on the map. The closest bus station is about 20 minutes away from the site.
Sunny days can attract local people with dogs. They are usually not on a leash so they can spook the birds.
