Description

Gravera de las Galletas is one of the rare wetlands for migratory waders on the southern slope of Tenerife. It has a peculiar location, right along the road, next to the beach. The area was formed as a result of extraction of gravel, becoming a set of small brackish ponds that maintained permanently. The water level has significant fluctuations, due both to the changing rhythm of the tides and to greater or lesser autumn rainfall. Among the birds you can encounter are Parti lile, billegetőcankó, Kis kócsag, Szürke cankó, Havasi partfutó, kőforgató, Sarlós partfutó, Nagy őrgébics and hegyi billegető. Also more rare waders on the Canary Islands like Sarki partfutó, Gólyatöcs, Ezüstlile, Temminck-partfutó, Erdei cankó, Réti cankó and Sárgalábú cankó have been observed here.
