Description

The Mietkowski Reservoir is a big artificial lake. On a Polish scale, the Mietkowski Reservoir is the main place of rest and wintering of geese and it is one of the most important breeding grounds of the Küszvágó csér and Szerecsensirály. Other birds that breed in the area are Bütykös ásólúd, Kis csér and Kis lile. During migration you can see big flocks of Vetési lúd that reach up to 60.000 individuals. If the reservoir does not freeze in winter, 7000–9000 individuals remain here. Flocks of Nagy lilik number up to 5000 birds. There are also numerous Tőkés réce. In summer and autumn, when the muddy bottom is revealed, waterfowl arrive, whose flocks can reach 20,000 individuals. They include Réti cankó, Pajzsoscankó and Nagy póling. Access

Easy to reach by car from Wrocław (approx. 35 km). On top of the dam there is a didactic and information path. From above you can admire the surroundings from an unusual perspective. The embankment, which is over 3 km long, can be crossed in its entirety, reaching the edge of the village of Borzygniew. The area at the river's inflow to the reservoir is the most attractive to observe waders.
