Wagejot was part of the Wadden Sea until the new Delta dike locked it in. The little lake holds many breeding terns and Gulipán.
In spring and summer, the breeding colony of Kenti csér is the absolute eyecatcher of Wagejot. In 2020 there were 6.500 breeding pairs of this species and the noise was absolutely deafening. At high tide, lots of waders from the mudflats of the Wadden Sea may come to roost. Expect Kis goda, Parti lile , Szürke cankó , Pajzsoscankó, Sarki partfutó, Havasi partfutó and many more. In winter, many species of ducks will enjoy the quietness of the area. For example Kanalas réce, Fütyülő réce, Csörgo réce and Nyílfarkú réce . There is no tidal action any more.

Wagejot is along the east coast of Texel and you can't miss it when you visit the Vogelboulevard (Bird Boulevard), as the east coast is often called. There are a few parking lots along the road.

Wagejot originates from the Wadden Sea, before the Delta dike was built (after the big flood in 1953). The old dike was very curved and the new dike could not follow its exact course. In this particular case, quite a large part of the Wadden Sea was locked off by the new dike. The old dike is still there, providing a lot of rest for the area.
