Description
The "Tichelgaten" is a fairly small natural area near the village of Buren and consists of several small ponds, reedbeds, pastures and small forested areas. Once, this area has been excavated for clay and has been turned into a small natural area since. The area is a good spot for many species of common songbird, woodpecker and small numbers of waterbirds. Frequently sighted species are Zöld küllo, Barátposzáta and Szürke légykapó. The small ponds and reedbeds are a great spot for cserregő nádiposzáta, Kis vöcsök and Jégmadár. The small forested area in the west provides good habitat for woodpeckers, like Nagy fakopáncs and sometimes Kis fakopáncs. Scarcer species that can be found here are Sárgarigó, Berki poszáta, Meggyvágó and Fülemüle.
On the northern side of the road, the biggest pond is located and provides a great spot for many species of waterbird. In winter, fairly large numbers of Kontyos réce and Kendermagos réce can be found here. Sometimes, scarcer species like Nagy bukó and Barátréce might show up.
