A natural pond complex that has never been drained or reclaimed. It is a Natura 2000 area where, among others, Szürke gém and Kanalasgém breed.

Description

Sarsven and De Banen are part of the Peelvennen, a chain of shallow lakes and wetlands with high ecological value. From a sometimes windy hide you have a beautiful view, especially in the morning, over a large pool and on either side mudflats where in May 2025 a Bíbic with four chicks could be observed. Kanalasgém can also be seen close to the hide as well as sárga billegető. Good place for various species of herons and ducks.

Nederlands: Sarsven en De Banen is een vencomplex dat nooit ontwaterd en ontgonnen is. Het is een Natura 2000-gebied waar o.m. Szürke gém en Kanalasgém broeden. Vanuit een soms wat winderige hut heb je vooral 's ochtends een mooi uitzicht over een grote plas en aan weerszijden slikken waar in mei 2025 een Bíbic met vier jongen zat. Kanalasgém is ook vlakbij de hut te zien evenals sárga billegető. Goede plek voor diverse reiger- en eendensoorten.

Access

Sarsven and De Banen are located just southeast of the village of Nederweert-Eind. Parking is available on the Banendijk. Press P on the map for directions to a parking lot. From there you can walk to the De Banen hide and the Sarsven lookout tower.

Nederlands: Sarsven en De Banen ligt net ten zuidoosten van het dorp Nederweert-Eind. Parkeren is mogelijk op de Banendijk. Druk op P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar een parkeerplaats. Vanaf daar kun je lopend naar de kijkhut van De Banen en de uitkijktoren van het Sarsven.
