Description
The city of Houten has a few parks and lakes that attract a surprising number of birds for their limited size. The Kooikerspark is an elongated park that consists of a small grove on the east side and a medium-sized lake (the Kooikersplas) on the west side. Both parts are connected by a narrow strip of greenery. You can take a nice, simple walk and then enjoy a cup of coffee in the adjoining center. Suitable for birdwatching on a lazy Sunday.
Regular visitors to the grove are Nagy fakopáncs, Jégmadár, széncinege, Kék cinege and őszapó. Sometimes Meggyvágó and Süvöltő are also observed. The lake attracts a lot more birds, including regularly Kárókatona and all sorts of ducks, such as Csörgo réce, Kontyos réce and Kendermagos réce. In spring and summer sometimes also Csigaforgató and billegetőcankó and in the reeds cserregő nádiposzáta. In the trees around the pond, the chance of sárgafejű királyka and tüzesfejű királyka is fairly high. Perhaps the nicest regular guests, who can often be found in the trees around the pond, are large groups of Erdei fülesbagoly.

Nederlands: De stad Houten heeft een paar parken en plassen die voor hun beperkte formaat verrassend veel vogels aantrekken. Het Kooikerspark is een langgerekt park dat aan de oostkant (vlak bij het centrum Het Rond) bestaat uit een klein bosje, en aan de westkant bestaat uit een middelgrote plas (de Kooikersplas). Beide delen zijn verbonden door een smalle strook groen. Je kan er een leuke, simpele wandeling maken en daarna lekker voor een kop koffie het centrum in. Geschikt dus voor lekker vogelen op een luie zondag.
Vaste bezoekers van het bosje zijn Nagy fakopáncs, Jégmadár, széncinege, Kék cinege en őszapó. Soms wordt er ook Meggyvágó en Süvöltő waargenomen. De plas trekt een stuk meer vogels, waaronder regelmatig Kárókatona en allerlei soorten eenden, zoals Csörgo réce, Kontyos réce en Kendermagos réce. In de lente en zomer soms ook Csigaforgató en billegetőcankó en in het riet cserregő nádiposzáta. In de bomen rond de plas is de kans op sárgafejű királyka en tüzesfejű királyka redelijk groot. Misschien wel de leukste vaste gasten die vaak in de bomen rond de plas zijn te vinden, zijn flinke groepen Erdei fülesbagoly.

Access
There are paved walking paths. Many people walk their dogs there. You can walk criss-cross through the bush and a circle around the lake. You can park in the surrounding residential areas, but the best place to park is in the Kruitmolen parking garage of the shopping center in the center. From the center you can reach the Kooikerspark within a few minutes.

Nederlands: Er liggen verharde wandelpaden. Veel mensen laten er hun honden uit. Je kan kriskras door het bosje heen wandelen en een rondje om de plas.
