Description
The Kippenkade, literally translated "Chicken Quay", is a small and narrow track through a typical Dutch polder landscape and adjacent to the 's Gravenkoop lake, which is part of the larger Reeuwijkse Plassen area. The track is used by local residents to get to their holiday residences, although this isn't frequent. The track is surrounded by trees, small reedbeds and waterways.
The reedbeds provide a great oppurtinity to find Berki poszáta, Kékbegy and Foltos nádiposzáta, besides more common species like Nádi sármány and cserregő nádiposzáta. The scattered trees and bushes are great for Kerti geze, kis poszáta and Mezei poszáta. The gardens of the present residences are good for small flocks of Mezei veréb.
The surrounding polders are great for large flocks of geese in the winter months. Large numbers of Apácalúd are present here and sometimes rare species like Vörösnyakú lúd and hólúd can be spotted within these flocks. During the breeding season, the polders are great for typical waders like Piroslábú cankó, Nagy goda and Pajzsoscankó. Large flocks of sárga billegető can be present too. Foraging Vörös gém can be seen next to the ditches. The track itself is a good spot for grass snakes.
The 's Gravenkoop lake is a great spot for kormos szerkő. They tend to hang around here just before flying to their breeding area in the polders. Large numbers can be seen foraging above the lake. Sometimes, species like fehérszárnyú szerkő and Kis sirály can be spotted too.
