Description
Dijkmanshuizen is a fairly small brackish water lagoon, situated near the village of Oudeschild on the island of Texel. The area consists of a brackish water lagoon with several small islands and is surrounded by pastures and reedbeds. The area is a very good location for observaring waders, escpecially during high tide. Thousands of waders make use of the area to roost, like Kis goda, Sarki partfutó and Havasi partfutó. Other waders, like Kis póling, Sarlós partfutó, Aranylile and Parti lile, can often be found in smaller numbers. The area is one of the best places on the island to observe certain species of wader, like Nagy goda, Pajzsoscankó and Kis lile. During migration, the area is also a very good spot to observe Temminck-partfutó and Apró partfutó.
Many waterfowl use the area as breeding and roosting location. Large numbers of Apácalúd breed here and can often be found in large numbers. Also Bütykös ásólúd can be very numerous. On the water, species like Csörgo réce and Kanalas réce can be seen and sometimes Böjti réce is present. In winter, the area is good for small numbers of Kis hattyú and large flocks of Örvös lúd.
The area is surrounded by patches of reedbed, but especially on the northwestern side of the area, large reedbeds are present. Common reedbirds breed here, like cserregő nádiposzáta and Nádi sármány. Also, several breeding pairs of Barna rétihéja are present and can often be seen hunting above the surrounding pastures.
On the eastern side of the area, a house with a large garden is present. The garden is a very good location for songbirds, like Kerti geze, kis poszáta and Mezei poszáta. On the surrounding pastures, small flocks of sárga billegető can be seen and Mezei pacsirta can be heard.

Nederlands: Dijkmanshuizen is een vrij kleine brakwaterlagune met enkele kleine eilandjes en is omgeven door weilanden en rietvelden. Het gebied is heel goed voor steltlopers, vooral bij vloed. Duizenden steltlopers maken gebruik van het gebied om te rusten, zoals Kis goda, Sarki partfutó en Havasi partfutó. Andere steltlopers, zoals Kis póling, Sarlós partfutó, Aranylile en Parti lile, zijn vaak in kleinere aantallen te vinden. Het gebied is een van de beste plekken op Texel om bepaalde soorten steltlopers te zien, zoals Nagy goda, Pajzsoscankó en Kis lile. Tijdens de trek is het gebied ook een zeer goede plek om Temminck-partfutó en Apró partfutó te zien.
Veel watervogels gebruiken het gebied als broed- en rustplaats. Apácalúd broedt hier en is vaak in grote aantallen te vinden. Ook Bütykös ásólúd kan zeer talrijk zijn. Op het water zijn soorten als Csörgo réce en Kanalas réce te zien en soms Böjti réce. In de winter is het gebied goed voor kleine aantallen Kis hattyú en grote groepen Örvös lúd.
Het gebied is omgeven door stukken riet, maar vooral aan de noordwestkant van het gebied zijn grote rietvelden aanwezig. Hier broeden gewone rietvogels, zoals cserregő nádiposzáta en Nádi sármány. Ook zijn er meerdere broedparen van Barna rétihéja aanwezig en zijn ze vaak jagend boven de omliggende weilanden te zien.
Aan de oostkant van het gebied staat een woning met een grote tuin. De tuin is een goede locatie voor zangvogels, zoals Kerti geze, kis poszáta en Mezei poszáta. Op de omliggende weilanden zijn kleine zwermen sárga billegető te zien en Mezei pacsirta te horen.

You're not allowed to enter the area. There's an observation hide on the southern side of the area. You can park your car next to the road and walk towards the hide. Inside the hide, information is available about the possible birds being present and about certain colour ringing projects for, especially, Kis goda.
