Description
The central lake in the area used to have the biggest Kanalasgém-colony of the Netherlands, but the Kárókatona took over and has now a huge colony of 1000+ birds. There are only a few Kanalasgém left. A large part of the area is flat and in wetter times can hold large water surfaces. This may attract several waders like Réti cankó , Erdei cankó and Szürke cankó and also, during spring migration, good numbers of sárga billegető, including the rare and interesting subspecies thunbergi and flavissima. The area can also be very good for raptors during migration.

Nederlands: De Muy heeft enkele watertjes en sommige vlaktes die nat kunnen zijn. Afhankelijk van het seizoen komen hier interessante vogels voor, maar ook leuke planten & vlinders. Het centrale meer in het gebied had vroeger de grootste Kanalasgém kolonie van Nederland, maar de Kárókatona nam het over en heeft nu een enorme kolonie van 1000+ vogels. Er zijn er nog maar een paar Kanalasgém over. Een groot deel van het gebied is vlak en kan in nattere tijden grote wateroppervlakken bevatten. Dit kan verschillende steltlopers aantrekken zoals Réti cankó, Erdei cankó en Szürke cankó en ook, tijdens de voorjaarstrek, goede aantallen sárga billegető, waaronder de zeldzame en interessante ondersoorten thunbergi en flavissima. Het gebied kan tijdens de trek ook heel goed zijn voor roofvogels.

Access
There are a few entrances, but two of them are important: at the west end of the Muyweg and near the parking of Paal 21, just outside De Koog. The area is best discovered by foot. The paths are not flat and exceptionally wheelchair-unfriendly. The central path could be explored by bike, but if you do not own a mountain bike, you might consider this a bad idea.

Nederlands: Er zijn een paar ingangen, maar twee zijn belangrijk: aan de westkant van de Muyweg en bij de parkeerplaats van Paal 21, net buiten De Koog. Het gebied kan het beste te voet worden ontdekt. De paden zijn niet vlak en buitengewoon rolstoelonvriendelijk. Het centrale pad zou op de fiets verkend kunnen worden, maar als je geen mountainbike hebt, zou je dit een slecht idee kunnen vinden.

De Muy is a pretty good bird area on the island, but it may be even better for plants, mushrooms, butterflies and other insects. In summer you can find a wide variety of very rare butterflies like Speyeria aglaja and Fabriciana niobe, but also Colias crocea and Plebejus argus.
