Description
The forests of slopes in Gauja National Park with old deciduous trees attract less common species of woodpeckers (Fehérhátú fakopáncs, Háromujjú hőcsik, Fekete harkály and közép fakopáncs). Relatively often spotted are the elsewhere rare sárga füzike, Kis légykapó and locally common Császármadár. Uráli bagoly has started nesting in the park, and the smallest owl of Latvia — Törpekuvik — is also seen more often. Many Haris and some species of warblers, which are not common in Western Europe (Berki tücsökmadár, Berki nádiposzáta), are found in the riverside meadows of Gauja.
